In the colossal role of Circe, in particular, Leclair combines dramatic declamation loaded with emotions and bright coloratura. Anyone with the imagination to envision a singer in an unsung role might dream of Callas in the role of Circe.

Or at least, such imagination was capable of evoking mezzo-soprano Tatia Jibladze, especially when she addresses the “Noire Divinités” in the captivating and unsetting “invocation” as a vengeful lover gone mad, creating a complex interpretation of love, pain, and revenge.
